what i do when i go camping

by pinkwitch @ 2008-07-03 - 17:28:57

My daughter and I love to go camping.
It is one of life great pleasures.

We make that much more enjoyable by going along with a group of like minded folk from the English Civil War Society, we are a re-enactment group. The membership is far and wide in the uk and what great times we have. Not only do we get to go camping in some great places of historical interest but we also (if you want get right into it) enjoy the release from the 21st C crap. We dress in the correct costume for the era which means lots of woolen clothing yes even in the blazing sun.

We re-enact battles and skirmishes from the civil war that riped this country apart, and then we get into the beer tent with the most fasinating folk you could ever meet.

some live the roles so well over the weekends that you would believe that you have stepped back in time.

Why do i do it i think it comes down to life was so much simpler back then Hard oh yes but simple and small things gave much more pleasure.

if i won the lottery i would become the most eccentric woman around who needs a car when a horse and cart gets you there just the same(slower yes but you still get there) i would be in a hurry any way.
i do the self sufficient with a 17th C twist.

any way thats what i do when i go camping.

Anyone can join in and ECWS has website so you can go have a look at what they are all about. google it i dare you

new to this blogging thng

Hello

I' not sure how this works so i'm just going to dive in at the deep end and see what happens.

I'm sure that my rantings will be very little interest to anyone but hey if this gives me something to do other than complaining i have nothing to do well it will be of interest to me.

so now i sit here at my keyboard and think to myself what am I going to write.
Maybe i could write about the beautiful county that i live in Dorset, with it amazing coastline, fabulous views and wide open spaces.

maybe i could write about the fact that slugs have eaten my small crop of dwarf green beans, lettuces and carrots but not my peas or beetroot. and that beer traps, egg shells and any other natural slug repellent hasn't worked this year. (I have dogs so can't and won't use chemicals)

maybe i could write about my attempts to carve wood into fab things that is the most frustrating thing as it takes so long and my hands are covered in blisters.

or just that i really want to find that golden way to make life that little bit easier. with ever rising fuel and food costs. working as hard as the next man or woman and feeling that there in no end to the daily grind for very little reward. When Oh when will we see a government that listens to the people of this country. Not those with the loudest voice who have money and fortune bestowed upon them because of who they now not because they work hard and are honest. but listen to the people who all
are the machine of this country (backbone as they say).
A Government that really cares that higher fuel, food, community charges,
and lower paid workers losing the 10p tax (i know they back tracked on that well they gave back 5p they still took 15p) is causing the poorer to become poorer, creating even spiraling credit debt. And a feel miserable society. i read in the paper from yesterday that the minster of transport has told us all to "bloody cheer up" that "we have never had it so good".
I tell you what he wants to come live my life for a year yes a year, not these so called experiments of one week in someone else's shoes.
A year through the bounty of the summer when there is work a plenty for my partner (self employed carpenter) because the weather is good, and building is high. then through the fast of the winter, when the work slows down, the days are shorter and the temp drops down so the heating goes on.
i wonder then if they think we have never had it so good.

well this is the end to my first blog.

thank for reading this if anyone does.
